Lacking bases, she designed her personages in such away that they were pushed into the ground just like totems. Her gallery constraints obliged her to include bases on them. Quarantania sculpture is made up of five figures, including all the totems that Louise Bourgeois displayed separately in the exhibition in 1949 at the Peridot Gallery. At the centre of the sculpture is the woman with packages with several shuttle-women surrounding it. The shuttle, which is one of the tools that were used by her parents as they worked in their workshop restoring Aubusson tapestries, is an emotional and formal element associated with the childhood of the artists.
